My name is Christine Highnett and I love to create interesting textile and art work.
I have always enjoyed drawing and
craft work ever since I was a child, and have tried various evening classes to
see which I preferred.
But in 1996 I decided to do an Open College
of the Arts, distance learning course in Textiles which I really enjoyed, we even
had the opportunity to go and present our work at the Houses of Parliament, which was a great honour. I
continued with the modules and gained my HNC Certificate in 1998.
Since then I have completed
various textile day schools and a distance learning course in Machine
Embroidery with Maggie Grey. I found
that I really enjoyed the free machine embroidery work and love to combine this with
other techniques when ever possible. I am a member of the Embroiderers Guild and try to do as many projects and competitions as possible.
More recently I have been working
on a City & Guilds Historical Heirloom in Machine Embroidery Course at
Urchfont Manor, Wiltshire. I based this on my family history and produced one traditional piece and one distressed piece, examples of these are on my website under Heirlooms.
This has really inspired me to
continue working on creative textile pieces to display and sell.
I have taken part in the West Berkshire Open Studios and showed numerous samples of my work, which I really enjoyed. My work can also be found at local markets such as Woolton Hill and Hamstead Marshall for that special gift you might be looking for.
